Joyfull, Joyfull

Crafted by Justin Alford, a seattle based cocktail creator.

It's hard not to think of Christmas morning when the smell of cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and allspice come together in this cocktail. Throw in the chicory notes from the coffee liqueur and the caramel sweetness from the 1792 Full Proof, and you can't go wrong.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1.75 1792 Small Batch Bourbon

  • 1 oz. medium amaro

  • .75 oz coffee liqueur

  • .5 oz winter spiced demerara syrup

  • star anise for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

  • Stir all ingredients over ice.

  • Strain over a large cube.

  • Garnish with smoking star anise.

To make the syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 4 whole black peppercorns

  • 2 whole cloves

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 star anise

  • 1 strip (2 1/2 inches) orange zest

Directions

  • Bring sugar, 1 cup water, the peppercorns, cloves, cinnamon stick, star anise, and zest to a boil in a small saucepan.

  • Reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes.

  • For a milder flavor, remove star anise, and discard; simmer 10 minutes more.

  • Remove from heat.

  • Let cool completely.

  • Pour through a sieve into a bowl; discard solids.

  • Syrup can be refrigerated in an airtight container up to 1 month.
